  • RV Park Directories: An Often Overlooked Tool to Fill Your Park

One of the biggest mistakes I see mobile home and RV park owners and managers make is to assume that just because they have a website, the tenants will come.

The fact is, your website doesn’t matter until a potential tenant finds it.

Today, we’re going to explore one more tool you can use to generate more inbound phone calls, more traffic to your website, and ultimately, more revenue.

If you’ve already downloaded your free copy of the 7 Step RV Park Marketing Plan, we discussed YouTube videos for your park, Google Places and Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing.

Today, we’re going going to focus on…

How to Promote Your Mobile Home or RV Park with Offline & Online Directories

Tenants and RV owners search the Internet differently.

RV Owners Search for Parks Differently
Not all RV owners search for their next space the same way.

On one hand, you have a group of people that prefer to use Google, Bing or YouTube to find their next RV space, mobile home space or park-owned home to rent.

On the other hand, you have a group of people that have already found directories or websites they prefer to use.

Admittedly, these directories have lost some horsepower with the introduction of the Internet because the “virtual printing press” is on longer controlled by a small group of people – now anyone with a computer can list their business online.

However, directories are still worth using if you want the attention of their readers.

Your Local Chamber of Commerce

Believe it or not, your local chamber of commerce can be a very good source for leads (leads are the phone calls, visits and website visitors you receive).

Chambers of commerce are in the business of generating more business for their members, and one of the ways they do this is to encourage people to come to your town or city, either permanently or on vacation.

Check out your local chamber of commerce to see if they have a web page that features RV parks, apartments and local hotels (often they will have a “where to stay” page).

RV Park Directories

There are a number of online RV park directories where you can list your site. Some sites require you to pay or to become a member of an association prior to listing your park.

One of the benefits of listing your park with one of these directories is the work that has already been done to get the directory to the top of the search engine.

Another benefit is that many RV owners have had a positive experience with these directories, because they provide a lot of useful information in addition to just listing RV parks.  Some of these owners have a tendency to go back to these directories rather than go to Google or Bing.

Finally, some of these directories have built membership programs.  Good Sam, for example, is popular among many RV owners who receive a discount when staying at parks belonging to the Good Sam network.

Hidden Benefits of Listing Your Park in the Directories

Although SEO has become more difficult due to recent updates by Google and Bing, backlinks can still help your position in the search engines.

As your position in the search engine increases, it’s more and more likely that RV owners searching Google or Bing will click through to your website.
